What sports parents should not do
There are a few things that you can do as a parent to avoid being “that sports parent.” Here are five of them:
1. Don’t coach from the sideline. It’s important to let the coaches do their job and not try to take over.
2. Criticizing other players is a quick way to make yourself unpopular. Not to mention, it’s not helpful for your child’s development.
3. You’re not a coach, but you’re also not a ref. It’s important to respect the officials and not try to second-guess their every call.
4. Don’t get into fights or act out of control. This is a quick way to get kicked out of the game and it’s also not a good example for your child.
5. Be supportive. Your child needs your encouragement, so try to be positive even if the game isn’t going their way.
